⟪ MasonJar ⟫ Letter to Our Son – Happy 1st Birthday, Mason!

Dear Mason,

Happy Birthday to you~
Happy Birthday to you~
Happy Birthday Dear Mason~
Happy Birthday to you~

It seems like mommy is always saying this, but it’s true that time passes too quickly. I can’t believe you’re already one year old, Mason! Congratulations on all of the milestones you have achieved thus far and for blossoming into the rambunctious little tot that we’ve become irrevocably infatuated with.

Although we’ve seen you grow bit by bit, there were two key events that truly made me realize that our little guy is undeniably graduating from a baby to a big boy. Those two events were 1) weaning from nursing and 2) walking. When we weaned, it was so much more bittersweet than I ever thought it would be. What a journey it had been. And when you started walking a month ago, you suddenly turned into this independent little boy who just wants to explore anything and everything.

We often find ourselves looking at you in awe and just thinking about how far you’ve come already, from a tiny newborn to your own independent being with your own thoughts, personality, and emotions. Although our hearts are so full from watching you grow, there are instances where we also can’t help but want you to slow down too. When daddy and I want to hold you, but you want to go play… When we’re at the store and you want to walk and explore the aisles as well… When people ask us how old you are and we are shocked to have to do a double-take and give a number that’s higher than we remember it being.

As you grow up, mommy and daddy want you to know that you can take your time. Our advice to you is to not compare yourself to others but to grow at your own pace. Every person is different and that is what makes us all unique. As long as you follow the golden rule (treat others the way you’d like to be treated), you will do great in life. Be kind, be humble, treat others with respect, and be a positive impact in this world.

For now, we will try to cherish every moment we have together. The moments where you come to me wanting a comfort cuddle are so much rarer now compared to the past, but mommy (and daddy) will always be here for you no matter what happens in life. We love you, Mason. Happy birthday, our dear son.
