First of all, I’d like to say that I hope those of you who are interested in the piece will find my post helpful. Before I purchase something, I like to do a lot of research and get different opinions on the product before I take the plunge, so I do hope that my perspective will provide some valuable insight.
If someone asked me if I thought I’d be getting something from Chanel a couple of months ago, I would’ve told them that I wasn’t even dreaming of it. That’s why this purchase was such a surprise! We ended up shopping at Chanel due to several factors: Went to Japan so had the advantage of things being duty-free, favorable currency exchange rate, lower price in Japan, and the ever-looming Chanel price increases. We saved a lot of money purchasing in Japan and I’d love to share the overseas purchasing details in a separate post later on.
This item, however, was purchased in the San Francisco boutique earlier in June to use specifically for travel purposes since we were going to Japan at the end of the month. I was looking for something small to hold small essentials, because I didn’t want to lug around a full sized handbag along with Mason’s diaper bag and stroller as well while trying to enjoy vacation. Initially I purchased the Gucci Padlock Shoulder Bag, but I didn’t know if it would hold its value so I decided to return it and get the Chanel WOC which I figured I will have a better chance of getting back my money if I choose to sell it in the future.
Without further ado, here is my unboxing video!
My overall first impression was a good one–I figured it was very unobtrusive and would be very to bring along. It was also large enough for my iPhone 6+ and all three of our passports along with a little extra room for some cash, a small coin pouch, and my pocket wifi. I would say that the bag stretches out to be about 1 1/2 inch wide.
Unfortunately, I do have to say that I’d probably never use this bag for travel ever again. Although the size is wonderful for those small necessities, I didn’t find it very comfortable to use because I was worried about the lambskin getting damaged. That worry alone is the reason why I will use my Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis instead for carefree traveling (indestructible LV canvas always gives peace of mind).
I do have to give props to Chanel because despite my crazy clumsiness, it didn’t get as damaged as I expected. You know how it is, when you’re traveling and fumbling around for your wallet, grabbing your passport for tax-refunds, rushing this way and that, you don’t & can’t really take the time to make sure your bag isn’t damaged. I noticed one corner is showing a pinprick of wear from me making contact with a brick wall and there is one teeny tiny superficial scratch that you can see under certain lighting on the front.
Besides that, it has held up wonderfully and I think it’s true when some people say that lambskin is more durable than people say it is. If I didn’t bring it for travel, I’m sure it would still be in pristine condition, so for those of you who really love the look and feel of lambskin, but want to settle for caviar because you’re worried about wear and tear, I think you should go for the lambskin as long as you u it and take case it mindfully and take care of it (unlike me).
As for me, I will probably use this bag for dinners and evenings out. It’s very cute as a clutch and will hold your phone, cards, cash, and a couple of other small things as well which is all you need for a night out.
